The Nautilus Shell Cremation Urn, is a replica of the oldest "living fossil" which it is called, and has survived over 450 million years. A true and eternal member of the sea. The Nautilus shell is lined with mother of pear and grows into increasingly larger chambers throughout its life. Myth and legend have surrounded the eternal Nautilus. There are many cultures with stories related to its symbol for renewal, growth and change.

The Nautilus Shell Urn is fired ceramic, not glazed, so it can be placed in the ocean. This urn will slip to the bottom of the ocean and in time the urn will open and the cremains will disperse. It is not biodegradable, but will not harm the ocean environment, as it will be a home for small fish and crustaceans. The bottom is sealed for burial on land or sea with a white biodegradable glue.

If you wish to keep at home, as it is a beautiful urn for display, or can be interred in a niche or placed in a casket with a loved one in time, a stronger glue would be used, a two part epoxy. You can indicate which glue you would like us to send you.

The Nautilus Shell Ceramic Urn is hand made by an America artist who is the recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, our nation's highest award for artists. The images shown are of the ceramic urn and an image of actual nautilus shells, found throughout the world.
