The McLaren-Honda Formula One Car Urn Topper

An urn is a special and unique way to store your loved one's cremains while honoring their life and legacy. The options for 3D-printed cremation urns are nearly limitless, and can help you have something that truly speaks to the person you loved and the things they enjoyed during their time with you.

About the McLaren-Honda Formula One Car Urn Topper

The McLaren-Honda Formula One Car urn topper was the very first 3D-printed order we undertook. We put the 3D-printed McLaren-Honda onto one of our wood urn bases, as the customer wanted to use the McLaren-Honda as an urn topper rather than putting the ashes directly into the car. There were some challenges due to it being our first project, but we learned a lot and delivered a beautiful urn to a grateful customer. Then, we were able to take all that knowledge and carry it forward in the creation of many more custom urns for other customers to memorialize their loved ones.

Inspiration

This customer wanted to showcase their lost loved one's appreciation for racing and Formula One, and what better way to do that than through an urn that offered the true look and feel of the sport? We customized one of our wooden urns by adding a 3D-printed Formula One car on top. This Formula One car is a McLaren-Honda MP4/4, known as the "greatest Formula One car of all time" and driven during the 1988 Formula One season.

Process

Creating the Model

Creating the model begins with the use of several different software programs for 3D modeling. This can take a little while, because we want to make sure the final product is just right. After the model is created and approved by the customer, we move to the printing process.

Printing

Depending on the size of the urn being created, the print process can take as long as 24 hours. The size and complexity of the urn's detail both matter when determining how long printing will take.

Post-Printing Process

Cleaning up, quality checks, and hardening are all part of the post-printing process. We're committed to the perfection of the urn design and the final product, so we make every effort to get it looking just right.

Painting

In-house painting is the next step in the production process, so we can make the urn look as realistic as possible. For this urn, the goal was to have the red and white body really stand out against the black tires, for a realistic Formula One car look.

Final Touches

Stickers, custom touches, and details, like the Goodyear logo on the tires and the Marlboro sponsorship graphics on the sides, are part of the final touches. Afterwards, it's time to prep the urn for shipment to the customer.

Take a look at the close-up details in these pictures of the McLaren-Honda Formula One urn topper, and you can see the love and care that went into creating it for our customer. We understand the value of having the right way to process a loss and express what someone meant to you. 3D-printed custom urns are a truly unique way to actualize the sentimental memories of your loved one based on something they appreciated so much in life.

Behind the Scenes

In these behind-the-scenes pictures, you can see the fine detail work that goes into every 3D-printed urn. Our 3D printing machine prints in color, which is revealed after the print's excess powder is dusted off. Our detailers take the extra step to either repaint those colors by hand, or use a special overcoat to enhance the vividness of the printed colors.
